How to remove discosoma the Malaysian way?

I hope nobody has posted this in chuisui before as I didn't go through the search :)
I mentioned Malaysian way cos I know if I do a goggle search, this topic must have been covered countless time in the international community..........( I hope those SENIOR reefers get what I am trying to say here )

OK, back to my topic. I have an "epidemic " of green discosoma thats growing like weeds in my tank. Even my MRM have to give way to them.
I have tried kalk to nuke them but not successful. They shrink for a week but later came back with a vengence. Too much use of concentrated kalk also causes some of my SPS to have burn tip.

I can use power head to blow at them but that would cause a sand storm in my tank. Maybe my last resort.

I just found out can use camel shrimp. But would it be selective and keep my MRM and RF untouched? I doubt it.

Anyone got any new found ways?

How to peel? They almost melt when I try to do that. Release a lot of slime. Very messy. Furthermore mine are all at the bottom of the tank. Difficult to reach without breaking those SPS.

post a picture, you might get a "Malaysian idea" how to get rid of that

mine so far only on 1 rock should be less than 15 polyp.. gonna try to use cutter to cut small portion of the LR where the mushy base attach, best time to do that is when the mushy shrink

I cincai kira also at least 50-60 polyps, big and small. They are now encroaching my MRM territory, killing the MRM in process.

I have tried that during WC. Not much help wor. Mayeb I have been too gentle. Ok with connect the rubber hose to a rigid pipe and then scrub the rock while sucking. This might help. Get ready for accidental frag ! lol.gif

They are growing mainly on a almost vertical wall of my base rock. How to place a rock on them?

I used to had them but not much, korek them out, but still grow, then just leave it there didn't bother it...tired of digging it. Then I happen to move a bunch of hammers there, then I totally forgotten about it and I didn't even realize that they are gone until 1 day when I sit in front of my tank with my face really close up.
Hammer sting them...? or they just go away...I dunno liao...but they are gone without me noticing...

I haven't tried hammer but I did try with bubbles. Unfortunately the surrounding kena the most before the mushroom showed any sign of distress. Imagine me paying RM80 for a piece of rock with this discosoma last time :duh:

I have similar coral pest problem with some polyps. Grow everywhere, and difficult to get rid of till today.

Post some photos lar ... are they on one big piece of rock, or on different pieces. Can the rocks be easily removed?

Some methods I used :

1. Take out rock, soak side with offending corals with BOILING water for 60 seconds & replace rocks in tank.

2. Take sharp knife and slooooowly scrap off each one.

3. Frag the rock and put offending side out in sun.

4. Place rock in sump such that offending coral out of water, and nice coral inside water. (After few days, some corals still alive!!)

5. If 80% covered by offending coral, frag nice coral out. Use hammer & screwdriver to scrape the bottom, so that there is still a small piece of rock attached to the nice coral. Use super glue to re-attach to other rocks.

6. Invite reefers to come and get own free frags!!

7. Take those rocks that with BOTH types of mushrooms & do some auction here!!

8. Re-position the rock, so that the offending side is facing downwards, or right on the sand with the rock on top.

The "root" of the mushroom might still grow back ... but I noticed that If the MRM grows faster, it will grow over the "roots" portion and cause the offending mushroom to not grow up.

All growing on my base rock. No way to remove the rock unless I want to restart my tank :) That's the reason why I am not putting any mushroom into my new tank. Not even MRM ! ( except for RF :))

I will try the siphone+scrapping method and filter the water through a kopi filter beg . Hopefully I wouldn't introduce too much chemical from the tearing mushroom while doing this.

Maybe after the filter, you can have the water flow thru some activated carbon before releasing it back to the tank..!

{Display Tank = 24"L x 20"W x 24"H } {Sump = 20"L x 18"W x 18"H} {Skimmer = RM 6"D x 24"H Becket pwd by Rio20} {Lights = 2 x Dymax Clip On 150W MH + 2 x ATI Blueplus 24W T5HO} {Chilling = Resun 650} {Denitrator = RM Sulphur Reactor} {Flow = 3500lph return pump + 2 x Seio 620}
